About us

Klippen Hotel is three old houses in Gudhjem – Grevens Dal, Therns and Skt. Jørgens Gaard – and a group of people who want to give you a stay to remember. We are not a chain. We are the people you meet at reception, at breakfast and out in the garden, and we look forward to welcoming you.

Jannie Buch Thorborg – owner

Jannie is from Jutland but lost her heart to Bornholm long ago. She grew up in the hotel and restaurant business and always dreamed of having her own hotel. So in 2021 she and Martin bought Hotel Klippen, and the following year Therns and Skt. Jørgens Gaard joined. Jannie has a background as a programmer and has been an entrepreneur since 2008. Today she looks after everything online – strategy, IT, AI, marketing and social media – but she is certainly not too grand to pick up the vacuum cleaner when needed. She is a little shy, but you will find her a bit of everywhere.

Martin Buch Thorborg – owner

Martin is from Copenhagen with a great love for Bornholm and has had a house in Gudhjem for more than 20 years. In his day job he is CEO of the accounting software Dinero, and at the hotel he helps with marketing and strategy and is always ready to talk things through when new ideas are needed. The easiest way to find Martin is to follow the sound – he talks so loudly you can hear him in most of Gudhjem. Preferably with a cool drink in hand.

Thomas – hotel manager

Thomas is our hotel manager and is a bit of everywhere. One day he is a waiter, the next he is at reception – and right now he is also building a new terrace. Thomas is from Southern Jutland, but he actually speaks Danish quite well.

​

Maiken – head of reception and shop

Maiken is our true Bornholmer – and you can hear it! For many years she ran her own retail business and has an amazing eye for making things look lovely. Maiken is in charge of the reception and the shop Førder and helps organise all sorts of other things across the hotels. She is a world champion at solving urgent problems – and does it with a smile. You will most often meet her at the reception in Førder.

Henrik – handyman

Henrik is probably the world’s best handyman – and the sweetest. He is in charge of our building projects, maintenance and the gardens, so if something breaks, Henrik fixes it. At home he has lots of children and chickens, so he is used to being busy.

​

Stine – cleaning, reception and shop

Stine is the newest member of the team. She is brilliant at cleaning, so the rooms are ready and inviting when you arrive, and you can also meet her at the reception and in the shop Førder.
